Artist's Statement
A major theme in the book is that learning about ethics won’t make us better people. Practicing good actions makes us better people over time. This doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t try though. I wanted to capture this idea by showing the process of hand lettering. My design might look perfect at first glance but when you look closer you can see all of my mistakes. If you take time to look at the design, you can possibly start to see the order in which I worked on it, with some areas having fewer mistakes than others. This is because as I worked on it, I became more skilled, reflecting the idea that practicing philosophical thought over time will positively change how we interact with others. At the end of the day, however, there will always be human error.
